Vanpooling

Do youvanpool commute at least 10 miles one way?

Reduce the stress of driving, reduce the drain on your budget and reduce your contribution to global warming.

WTA works closely with Metro to set up vanpools in the region. Metro provides subsidies to keep you rolling at a huge savings compared to driving alone.

When at least five commuters live in the same general area and are bound for the same worksite at least 10 miles away, riding in a vanpool may be just the ticket. And you don’t even need a ticket!

You can be picked up at your door or meet your van at a central location (take advantage of getting in your steps). Relax, read the morning paper or chat with your friends instead of fighting the traffic everyday.

Driving 20 miles alone five days a week could cost you $232 per month ($.58 per mile for financing, insurance, maintenance and gas). A vanpool with five people will cost about $91 plus about $16 for gas per person (@ $4 per gallon). That’s $105 a month you could apply to your mortgage, sock away for Timmy’s college or fund an escape to Tahiti. A vanpool operates with an organized route, schedule, and passenger fares. Vanpools consist of seven to fifteen people sharing a van. Driving may be the responsibility of one or more of the employees, who travel for free in exchange. To be cost-effective, a vanpool generally requires at least 8 employees and a commute of at least 10 miles each way. They are often popular where there is low residential density and where transit service is limited.
