Transit

If you work in Washington County, the Westside Transportation Alliance will provide programs at your workplace to help you use transit quite easily. Ask your transportation coordinator to call us. 503.906.7961 or This e-mail address is being protected from spambots. You need JavaScript enabled to view it .

The morning commute on the bus offers time to talk to friends, listen to tunes or read the latest New York Times Bestseller. (Egads! You’re at your destination, and there are six more pages in Chapter 5.) Time seems different, more detailed and more valuable when you ride the bus or MAX. Relax. You’re paying yourself in time and money to take transit.

Get to the transit stop

A 15-minute walk to the bus stop and a 15-minute walk home will chalk up the 30 minutes of moderate physical activity that the U.S. Surgeon General advises to maintain good health. Not enough? Walk to the next transit stop or maybe the next.

Take advantage of a daycare center near your workplace and enjoy the ride with your child.

The connections are easy to make. Check out TriMet schedules and maps on-line or pick up schedules on the bus, in grocery stores, Pioneer Courthouse Square in downtown Portland and libraries.

Combine cycling and transit

Is the transit stop too far from your house or your work too far from the destination stop? Start your day with a bike ride to the transit stop, put your bike on the bus or MAX and relax. There’s no extra charge or permit required to use the rack. It’s easy, once you try it. And don't worry, the bus driver will wait.

MAX to Portland International Airport

If you’re headed to the airport, consider an easy ride on the MAX Red Line from Beaverton Transit Center with trains running every 15 minutes from 5 a.m. to 11:30 p.m. Roll your luggage on and relax. No traffic and no parking charges.

Park and Ride

You may find using a park and ride makes transit much easier. You can park for free and hop on a bus or MAX. Parking is limited to 24 hours. For a list of park and ride locations, visit the TriMet website at http://www.trimet.org/parkandride/index.htm

So you want to take transit but fear you may be stranded at work if your child gets sick at school or need your car to run an unexpected errand. If your employer participates in a TriMet pass program, you may use an Emergency Ride Home voucher and take a taxi to your destination. Whew!
