Washington County's Department of Land Use and Transportation received a $100,000 grant from the Department of Energy to help plan for a complete bike and pedestrian system. They are asking for residents' opinions on areas that most need improvements, particularly in closing the gaps in bike lanes and sidewalks. These comments will help inform the county's plan for active transportation. Submit your comments online by January 1st.

Commissioner Schouten
Councilor Harrington
The event, held on June 22nd, was the combined effort of 1000 Friends of Oregon, the Bicycle Transportation Alliance, Adelante Mujeres, Washington County Bicycle Transportation Coalition and Westside Transportation Alliance. It led participants on a scenic bike ride along the Urban Growth Boundary between Hillsboro and Forest Grove. We finished at the Forest Grove Farmer's Market, where we enjoyed the bounty of local produce, prepared food and handcrafted goods.
Forest Grove Market Manager Gina Bell, of Adelante Mujeres, spoke to the group about the positive impact the newly-revived market has on local farmers, entrepreneurs and downtown businesses.
Metro Councilor Kathryn Harrington and Washington County Commissioner Dick Schouten participated in the ride, reinforcing the commitment of our elected officials and local jurisdictions to improve active transportation in the county.
