Geek Sheet

We come across all kinds of interesting info that is just too, well, geeky for the normal reader. But we have to share it with someone and that's YOU!

Yummy statistics

  • For every gallon of gas you do not burn, you save 20 lbs of carbon dioxide from being released into the atmosphere.

  • Staying off the road two days a week means you've reduced carbon dioxide emissions by an average of 1,590 lbs per year.

  • By not driving, you save an estimated 40 cents per mile (fifteen cents of this is just fuel costs, figured at $3 a gallon and an average of 20 miles per gallon).

  • The average total cost of driving 15,000 miles per year is $7, 823 ($21.43 per day).

  • Americans who use transit spend a median of 19 minutes daily walking to and from transit (the Surgeon General recommends 30 minutes of daily physical activity).

  • Each kilometer walked is associated with a 4.8% reduction in the likelihood of obesity (each hour spent in a car is associated with a 6% increase in the likelihood of obesity).

We'll add more geeky treats as we find them!
