Coming soon: WTA’s annual Active Transportation Challenge!

4/11/2024

Picture
This May, participate in our Active Transportation Challenge! This is a friendly competition for people that live or work in Washington County and employees of WTA member organizations. Walk, bicycle, scooter, and skateboard trips all count! Walk or roll to work, to the store, or for fun and log your trips on GetThereOregon.org during the month of May.

On April 8, we hosted a virtual workshop where we discussed the challenge, this year's prizes, and the coveted WTA League trophy! Watch the recording here.

If you have an account on GetThereOregon.org and a home or work address in Washington County, or are part of a WTA member organization network, you are automatically entered into the Challenge. If you don’t have an account yet, create one for free to join.

Join or form a team with your coworkers or friends! Joining a team is optional, but the Challenge is a great way to reconnect with coworkers that are working remotely or that you don’t see as often because of hybrid schedules. It takes four people to make an official team. Teams from WTA member organizations compete for the WTA League Championship Trophy.

Learn more about the Challenge and prizes here, and see leaderboards and join/form a team here!

Take advantage of the sun and join Ride Westside for their upcoming group bike rides:
  • April 28: Eurovision Celebration Ride in Beaverton
Meet at 3:00 p.m. at Millikan Way MAX, roll at 3:30 p.m.
Join Mick for a casual mob around central Beaverton where we listen to his Eurovision Song Contest playlist. The Eurovision Song Contest is a fun music event that happens every year across the pond (in Europe) and a great way to find new sounds and styles. This year’s ESC takes place from May 7-11 in Malmö, Sweden. This ride will feature some music from Mick’s bike as well as a playlist you can stream yourself if you’re so inclined. There will be a store stop for people who wish to purchase beverages and snacks and then we’ll end at a park to consume said refreshments, keep listening to music, and hang out and chat.
  • May 25: Tigard Public Art Ride
Meet at 9:30, at Tigard Library, roll at 10:00 a.m.
Join us for a 5 mile ride in and around Downtown Tigard exploring public art. There will be a mix of car-free paths and riding in the street. A few hills provide a small challenge. View the route here:
    https://ridewithgps.com/routes/42490909
This is a no-drop ride meaning that we leave nobody behind. Kids should be strong riders and comfortable riding in traffic on side roads. Rest stop at Natural Grocers. Led by @Tigard_stripes on Instagram
  • June 1: Beaverton Art Ride
Meet at 10:30 a.m. roll at 11:00 a.m. Location TBA
Join Ride Westside as we explore public art in Beaverton, Oregon. The Beaverton Arts Commission recently put out a handy map pointing out art landmarks of interest in Central Beaverton, so let’s check it out on our bikes, be moved by the stories behind the art, and then all have lunch together in the car-free plaza on SW 1st Avenue.
  • June 1: Ride to Pedalpalooza Kickoff
Meet at 2:00 at Beaverton Dining Commons on SW 1st Ave between Watson and Washington, ride at 2:30 p.m.
Meet in Beaverton (after the Ride Westside Beaverton Arts Ride) and then wander with us down to Portland to join in the madness sure to ensue at the kickoff ride. Bring or be prepared to buy picnic snacks/drinks and we'll hang out for the afternoon. I'll also bring Uno, others are welcome to bring card games or other fun activities that can be done in a conversation circle on the ground (table not guaranteed).
The kickoff ride doesn't actually roll until 5ish but your ride leader wants to get there in time to get a pennant before they run out.
