Walker Road capacity enhancement

This project will reconstruct Walker Road between 173rd and 185th avenues by:

  • Creating additional travel lanes for a total of two lanes in each direction

  • Adding a new traffic signal to the Walker Road and 178th Avenue/Cambray Street intersection

  • Raising the street grade at Willow Creek by 8-10 feet for improved sight distance and rideability

  • Building buffered bike lanes

  • Improving sidewalks and ADA-compliant curb ramps

  • Updating street lighting

  • Upgrading storm water drainage

  • Installing landscaping

Typical Cross Section

The project cross section shows:

  • 6 foot wide sidewalks with a 4 foot curb and landscaping strip

  • 5 foot wide bike lanes, buffered with a 2.5 foot buffer

  • 11-12 foot wide travel lanes

  • 13 foot wide center turn lane


Temporary closure and detour

Walker Road will be closed between 174th Terrace and Cambray Street for about

four months, starting Aug. 3. Please plan ahead and give yourself adequate travel time. Avoid using neighborhood routes, where cyclists will be present.

Bike detour

Cyclists may use neighborhood routes. Please watch for children at play and drivers leaving driveways.

Vehicle detour

Drivers will be detoured to 185th Avenue, Cornell Road and 173rd Avenue.
