Enjoy an active and more affordable commute

Boost your health and wellness, save money, and more by biking! Pedal past traffic, get an active start to your day, and reduce your carbon footprint.

You can get started biking with any kind of bike. All you really need is a helmet, lock, and lights. Any clothes can be biking clothes.  If needed, there are lots of ways to carry your belongings, whether on your bike or with a backpack.
Tips to get started:
  • Dust off your bike or find one that fits your needs. See our list of Affiliates to find friendly local bike shops and brands.
  • Plan and practice your route. Find good routes using resources at WTA-TMA.org/commuters. Need more help? Fill out a custom commute request and one of our staff members will help you plan the best route from door to door.
  • Going multi-modal? Biking to MAX or bus services is a great way to reduce trip-times, eliminate transfers, and incorporate active transportation into your commute. Learn how to load your bike on TriMet bus and MAX vehicles here, and see options for secure bike parking at TriMet stations.
  • Read up on bicycle safety. Resources are available at WTA-TMA.org/commuters; view regional and localized maps, resources, and our Guide to Bicycle and Pedestrian Safety.
  • Give your bike a quick "A B C" check before you head out.
  • Allot some extra time if it's your first time trying a route, it's good to make mistakes, and explore different shortcuts!
  • Have fun and enjoy your ride!
